Description
| Polished chips of geological and archaeological samples were analysed with a variable pressure Hitachi S3700N SEM, coupled with a Quantax EDS microanalysis system at the HERCULES laboratory (University of Évora). Specifically, the Quantax system is equipped with a Bruker AXS 5010 XFlash Silicon Drift Detector, which offers a spectral resolution of 129 eV at FWHM for MnKα. The EDS elemental analysis and quantification were carried out with the ESPRIT software by Bruker. SEM-EDS obtained two types of data: 1) SEM - Microphotographs obtained through surface sample scanning; 2) EDS - Elemental composition data obtained through sample mapping or spectra acquired from specific points within the sample. The geological samples are chert samples from the Algarve basin, previously studied and described in Belmiro et al. (2023). The samples can also be consulted in our online reference collection (www.lusolit.icarehb.com). The archaeological samples include several chert types identified in the Upper Paleolithic sequence of the Vale Boi site, previously studied and described in Belmiro et al. (2025a,b). (2026-05-01) |
